UA School of Law to Host Meador Lecture on Equality

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Law will host the 2014 Meador Lecture Series on Equality Friday April 11, in room A255 of the law school.

The lectures, beginning at 8:30 a.m., are open to the public and will explore the topic of equality and its relationships to moral, legal and political values from different scholarly disciplines and perspectives. The series will explore jurisprudential issues regarding general intersections between law and equality.

Lectures include Matthew Adler, the Richard A. Horvitz Professor of Law and professor of economics, philosophy and public policy at Duke Law School; Martha Albertson Fineman, the Robert W. Woodruff Professor of Law, Emory University Law School; Jerry Kang, professor of law and Asian American studies (by courtesy) Korea Times-Hankook Ilbo Chair in Korean American studies, UCLA School of Law; and Reva Siegel, the Nicholas deB. Katzenbach Professor of Law, Yale Law School.

The Daniel J. Meador Lecture was established in 1994 to honor The University of Alabama School of Law’s late professor and dean. A 1951 Law School graduate and professor emeritus at The University of Virginia School of Law, Meador delivered the inaugural lecture in the series.

The format of the Meador Lecture changed in 2004. Rather than inviting one Meador Lecturer, the School of Law faculty identifies an interdisciplinary theme and invites several scholars to address the theme. This approach allows each scholar to illuminate that chosen concept with ideas from his or her scholarly perspective.
