UA Community Services Center Offers SERVE Better Together Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – – The University of Alabama Community Service Center will host the first SERVE Better Together event at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 15.

The event is receiving support from the  Target Foundation the UA Crossroads Community Center. The goal of the event is to create opportunities for improving intercultural relationships within a UA student body that grows more diverse each year and to promote a spirit of unity on campus and in the community.

Organizers from Better Together, an interfaith student organization, will organize a group of students representing different religious and nonreligious backgrounds into three teams. Those teams will spend the day working for families whose homes are in need of repairs and wheelchair ramps. The service experience is a joint effort between the university and local nonprofit organizations Authentic Renovations Ministries and Love Inc.

Following their work on the projects, students will return to the Bloom Hillel House on campus for an interfaith dinner and reflection on how the student body can work better together.

“Last year alone, university students reported more than 700,000 hours of community service,” said Kimberly Montgomery, assistant director of the CSC.  “We are glad to partner with the Target Foundation to provide students with the means to maximize their impact in this community.”
