UA Historian, Author Receives Two Prestigious Awards

Dr. Steven B. Bunker, associate professor of history at The University of Alabama, has received awards from two distinguished Latin American studies associations for his book, “Creating Mexican Consumer Culture in the Age of Porfirio Diaz,” published by the University of New Mexico Press.

The Faith and Politics Institute’s Civil Rights Pilgrimage

The Faith and Politics Institute held their annual Civil Rights Pilgrimage in Alabama on March 1, 2013. The pilgrimage brought U.S. Congressmen to Tuscaloosa to see historic Foster Auditorium, and to hear from Dr. Sharon Malone, sister of Vivian Malone Jones, and Mrs. Peggy Wallace Kennedy, daughter of former Alabama Governor George C. Wallace.

UA’s Supply Store Hosts Civil Rights Photo Exhibit, Book Signing

More than 20 photographs depicting the civil rights movement will be displayed June 17-28 at The University of Alabama’s Supply Store in the Ferguson Center. The free exhibit, compiled from the archives of The Birmingham News, is sponsored by the UA College of Continuing Studies, The Birmingham News and AL.com. The exhibit will travel the state for the remainder of the year, representatives said.

UA Filmmakers, Alumni Win Regional Emmy Awards

Andrew Beck Grace, a University of Alabama instructor in telecommunication and film and director of Documenting Justice, led the way for UA filmmakers at the 2013 Southeast Region Emmy Awards, bringing home three wins for his documentary, “The Durrs of Montgomery.”
