Identity theft can happen over the telephone. Students should not give out personal information to any automated calls claiming to be from the University. Any automated call from the University’s Office of Receivables and Collections will have a 348 prefix and will direct students to their online student accounts for payments. The Office of Receivables and Collections does not prompt students to make payments on accounts or ask for personal financial information via phone calls.

The sidewalk on the east side of Hackberry Lane, going north from the McCorvey Drive intersection to Jack Warner Parkway, is closed through Jan. 14, 2014.Click here for a map of campus road closures. More information: Allison McCants at 348-1369 or amccants@fa.ua.edu.

The UA public wireless network will no longer be available starting in January 2014. The Office of Information Technology asks students to set their wireless devices to use the new UA-WPA2 network for a safer Wi-Fi connection. Students can choose the UA-WPA2 connection directly from their wireless devices and log in using their myBama identifications and passwords.

OIT also offers the XPressConnect application to make UA-WPA2 setup easy. Students can open the browsers on their devices and go to http://wpa2setup.ua.edu; read the Acceptable Use Agreement; check the box to accept the agreement; and click on the “Start >” button. XPressConnect will guide users through the configuration of their laptops or mobile devices.

Students who are moving to Apple devices, such as an iPhone or iPad, should tell those devices to forget the UA public wireless network. Doing so will stop the Apple device from trying to reconnect to that wireless network in the future. More information or questions: the OIT Service Desk at 348-5555 or itsd@ua.edu.

SAFETY

The University of Alabama’s 24-hour hazing and harassment hotline at 205-348-HALT (4258) allows students, parents or others to report incidents of discrimination, harassment, hazing or any kind of unhealthy behavior.
