John Legend to Lecture at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama welcomes multiple Grammy winner John Legend to present a lecture Jan. 19 at Moody Music Hall as part of the 2014 Martin Luther King, Jr. Realizing the Dream Concert.

Legend is a nine-time Grammy winner, best known for his singing and songwriting. The R&B/soul artist made a national splash by winning Best New R&B artist in 2006, and he hasn’t let up since. His style of music is all about being real.

“Soul is about authenticity,” Legend told Rolling Stone magazine in 2006. “Soul is about finding the things in your life that are real and pure.”

Legend comes to speak at the University in the 25th anniversary of the MLK Realizing the Dream Concert. Actor James Earl Jones was the inaugural guest. Others who have appeared in the concert series include Maya Angelou, Harry Belafonte and Sidney Poitier.

The Realizing the Dream Concert series began in 1990 as a collaborative effort between UA, Stillman College and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and it is sponsored by those entities, the Realizing the Dream Committee, Shelton State Community College, UA’s University Programs and its School of Music.

Tickets for the lecture are $15 general admission and go on sale Jan. 8 at Moody. Phone 205/348-7111 or visit http://www.uamusic.tix.com to order tickets.
