TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Social Work will kick off its 2013 Fall Colloquium Series, Monday, Sept. 16, with guest lecturer Dr. Cynthia Franklin.

Dr. Cynthia Franklin, Stiernberg/Spencer Family Professor in Mental Health at the School of Social Work, University of Texas at Austin, will discuss “The Evidence-Base of Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.”
Her talk will be held from noon to 1 p.m. in Little Hall, room 104, on the UA campus.
Franklin, an internationally-known scholar, has particular expertise in school mental health practice. She is the author of numerous books and more than 100 professional publications in the professional literature.
The series will continue through the fall semester with the following speakers:
Tuesday, Oct. 8: Leonard Pitts Jr., American commentator, journalist and novelist, nationally-syndicated columnist. Pitts will discuss, “If this is America …” This program, part of UA’s “Through the Doors” activities, is co-sponsored by New College in the College of Arts and Sciences and the department of journalism in the College of Communication and Information Sciences.
Monday, Nov. 11: Dr. Sean Joe, associate professor of social work and department of psychiatry at the University of Michigan’s School of Medicine. He will discuss, “American Suicide: Examining the Social Lives of Suicidal Black Males.”
The lectures are free and open to the University community and the general public. Continuing Education Units will be available.
