ANNOUNCEMENTS

The application deadline for student organizations to apply for block seating at home football games in Bryant-Denny Stadium for is Aug. 28 before 5 p.m. The cost per organization is $250. Applications and payments should be remitted to the Student Government Association office in 231 Ferguson Center. The application is available at http://sga.ua.edu.

The University of Alabama Campus Mail Service has a new, expanded post office on the first floor of Ferguson Center, across from the University Supply Store. Students can log in to myBama and sign up for a mailbox. At the Ferguson Mail Center, students can mail letters and packages and purchase stamps, boxes and other supplies. A UPS and FedEx kiosk station is available for outbound packages. More information: Campus Mail Service at 348-MAIL (348-6245) or Ferguson Mail Center at 348-7807.

The Action Card Office and Transportation Services have moved to the Campus Drive parking deck-transit hub at 451 Campus Drive East. Here, students can receive Action Cards, deposit Bama Cash and buy parking permits.

University departments, student organizations and approved community vendors have until Friday, Aug. 23, to register for Get on Board Day, which will be held Aug. 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Seventh Avenue. Registration information can be found at http://thesource.ua.edu/gobd. Get On Board day is an interactive involvement fair where students learn about the available organizations at UA. The application deadline to become a member of the SGA’s First Year Council is Aug. 30 before 5 p.m. FYC members represent first-year students at UA, write resolutions and engage in different campus projects and activities. The application is available at http://sga.ua.edu.

The application deadline to become a member of an SGA general committee is Sept. 14 before 5 p.m. The application is available at http://sga.ua.edu.

The Office of Information Technology is implementing a program of scheduled changes to UA’s wireless services. The changes will reduce and eventually eliminate the use of unsecured wireless connections on UA’s network. The UA RESNET Wireless Network is no longer available. Students will still have full access to wireless services using the UA-WPA2 and, where necessary, the UA-WPA-PSK connections. Detailed instructions for connecting to the UA-WPA2 network are provided on the OIT website at http://oit.ua.edu/oit/services/wi-fi-protected-access-wpa. Individuals may contact the IT Service Desk at 348-5555 if they experience problems connecting.

CAMPUS PARKING/TRANSPORTATION

Crimson Ride has resumed regular service. Buses will run from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday. The 348-Ride service will run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and will run 24 hours on weekends. Click here for more information. Portions of the Riverside residential parking deck will not be available until September due to rain delays impacting construction. Once the new deck opens, an additional 500 spaces in the northern residential community-parking zone will be available. Until the Riverside deck fully opens, the Ferguson deck will be used as overflow parking for students assigned to the northern residential zone.

All UA faculty, staff, students and visitors who own, operate or store any bicycle on the UA campus should register it with UA Transportation Services. Registration may be done online at myBama. Click here to register. Bike permits must be picked up at the Parking Services office located in the Campus Drive Parking Deck/Transit Hub at 451 Campus Drive East. EVENTS

The University of Alabama’s Class of 2017 will take the Capstone Creed today at 6 p.m. in Foster Auditorium during the convocation for new students. The convocation is part of Week of Welcome, which continues through Aug. 29 to help new students acclimate to the University. More information: http://www.wow.ua.edu/schedule.cfm.

The Student Government Association is hosting a community yard sale Saturday, Aug. 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parking lot of Canterbury Episcopal Church. The cost to set up a table is $10 for undergraduate and graduate students and $20 for faculty, staff and community members. Tables will be provided on site. New students who seek leadership opportunities on campus are invited to the 2013 Freshman Involvement Symposium that will be held Aug. 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in 360 Ferguson Center. Participants at this free workshop will hear from representatives of freshman-leadership organizations, gain insight on ways to make applications and résumés stand out, and network with current student-leaders, faculty and staff. Faculty and graduate students
 are invited to the University Libraries Fair
Aug. 27, 10–11:30 a.m., and Aug. 28, 2–3:30 p.m., in 205 Gorgas Library. The fair will feature more than a dozen information booths showcasing the many services, collections and resources of University Libraries. Librarians will be available to answer questions. The Homegrown Alabama Farmers Market will be held every Thursday, 3-6 p.m., through October on the Canterbury Episcopal Chapel’s lawn at 812 Fifth Ave. Fresh produce, free-range eggs, naturally raised beef and pork, goat cheese, herbal teas and remedies, homemade soaps and more are available for purchase. EBT/SNAP, debit and BAMA Cash cards may be used (see the Homegrown tent for assistance). Enjoy face painting, kids’ crafts and live music.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
