UA School of Social Work to Hold Brown Bag Lunch, Lecture June 27

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Social Work will host an informational brown bag lunch with Dr. Harold Kudler, clinical lead of the Rural Health Program Mid-Atlantic Veterans Integrated Service Network, known as VISN 6.

The lunch takes place at noon, Thursday, June 27 in room 104 in Little Hall on the UA campus.

Kudler, who is also an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University School of Medicine, will talk about the mental health needs of rural veterans.

Since 2005, Kudler has been associate director of the VISN 6 Mental Illness Research, Education and Clinical Center, which develops and disseminates best practices in support of service members, veterans and their families.

Additionally, Kudler is an advanced candidate in the Psychoanalytic Education Center of the Carolinas (adult and child programs) and was co-founder of the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center of North Carolina.

His expertise in post-traumatic stress disorder stems from clinical and research work with combat veterans, ex-prisoners of war, survivors of other traumatic events, and their families. He received his M.D. from Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York and completed psychiatric residency training at Yale University.

In recent years, he has received numerous awards and honors, including the Honored Teacher Award from the Duke University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry, the Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D. Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Medical Education from the American Psychiatric Association, and the Edith Sabshin Award from the American Psychoanalytic Association for Excellence in Teaching.
