TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Meredith Cummings, director of scholastic media and a journalism instructor at The University of Alabama, placed third nationally in the blogging category of the National Federation of Press Women’s 2013 Communications Contest.
Cummings writes a regular blog called “The Up Beat” for the Alabama Media Group’s al.com family of sites. She won for her entries “Pulitzer Prize comes home to Tuscaloosa” and “Talking my way out of jail.”
“I am so honored to receive this award. I’m a big believer in practicing what you teach, and social media is one of the things we stress in the journalism department,” Cummings said. “I am also grateful to al.com for giving me the platform on which to blog and share my thoughts.”
As a third-place winner, Cummings receives a $100 prize and will be recognized at the NFPW conference in August.
