Regions Bank Donates Bikes

Regions Bank has donated 25 of their green bicycles to UA’s BamaBikes program. The BamaBikes program allows UA students, faculty and staff to rent a bicycle for use on campus for a very small charge. The donation from Regions almost doubles the number of bikes currently in the BamaBikes program.

On June 7, 2013, The University of Alabama held an interfaith prayer service to celebrate the role of the faith community in the Civil Rights movement in West Alabama. Speakers included members of the West Alabama faith community, and UA President Dr. Judy Bonner. Special music was provided by UA’s Afro-American Gospel Choir.

Purple Heart Ceremony for Mr. John L. Hooks

The University of Alabama Air Force ROTC Detachment 10, hosted a Purple Heart Ceremony for Mr. John L. Hooks. Mr. Hooks was wounded in conflict in Vietnam in 1969, but due to a clerical error never received his Purple Heart medal. On November 1, 2012, U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. David S. Fadok, presented Mr. Hooks with his Purple Heart medal.

U.S. Army Reserve Sgt. Jordan Carpenter served his country on the front lines of battle in Iraq and Afghanistan. Now he is pursuing a degree in Environmental Science from UA’s College of Arts and Sciences. Carpenter talks about how UA’s Office of Veterans and Military Affairs helps students like him make the transition from soldier to student.

UA Archivist to Attend Leadership Institute

Donnelly Lancaster Walton, interim archivist and curator of Southern History and Culture Collection at The University of Alabama’s Hoole Special Collections Library, has been selected as a participant in the 2013 Archives Leadership Institute.
