UA Advertising Students’ Work to be Showcased in New York City Show

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Students and alumni from The University of Alabama’s advertising and public relations department will have their work seen by top advertising agency creative professionals and recruiters as part of The One Club for Art & Copy’s 19th Annual One Show Student Exhibition, part of the Creative Week events in New York City.

This is the first year for UA to be invited to the show.

The students whose work is being submitted to the exhibition are both current and former members of Dr. Glenn Griffin’s advertising portfolio courses.

“This exclusive exhibition features work from only a handful of creative programs, a very select invitation list,” said Griffin, an associate professor of advertising. “Only 27 schools in the world were invited last year, and we feel very fortunate to be on the list for the first time ever.”

The exhibition will run May 6-8 in a SoHo gallery space and boasts hundreds of creative professional visitors each year.

“For the students, the invitation to showcase their work in this prestigious exhibition is a fantastic opportunity,” said Dr. Joseph Phelps, chair of the advertising and public relations department. “Their work will be viewed by the leading advertising professionals looking for talented young minds. In the hyper competitive creative workspace, the opportunity to show your skills at this level is rare and valuable.

“For our advertising program,” Phelps said, “receiving an invitation that only goes to programs considered to be producing top level creative talent represents just the beginning of our efforts to become as strong in creative as we are in developing insight driven strategic thinking skills.”

The One Show, the premiere international advertising award show, sets the industry standard for creative advertising in print, television, radio, outdoor, innovative marketing, integrated branding and branded content. Each year, events for both students and professionals are hosted by The One Club for Art & Copy as part of Creative Week in New York City.

The department of advertising and public relations is part of UA’s College of Communication and Information Sciences.
