UA Ad Team to Perform Service Project with Boys, Girls Clubs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. ― The children of the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Alabama will receive a surprise Tuesday, April 2, when The University of Alabama Ad Team arrives bearing gifts.

Ad Team, also known under its agency name 4i Design, returns to the National Student Advertising Competition this year with Glidden paint as the client. The team decided to make charity a big part of its competitive campaign and to start locally in Tuscaloosa.

“We were talking about all these ideas that Glidden could do for philanthropy,” said Myreete Wolford, 4i Design president. “Then we thought, ‘Why can’t these projects begin in our own town?’”

From 3-5 p.m., 4i Design members will spend time with the children and test out various concepts from their campaign. The team will return Sunday, April 7, to paint the art room.

“Most of us were in Tuscaloosa when the April 27 tornado hit,” said Daryne Foote, 4i Design’s account executive. “We’re excited to be able to add some color to a town that has suffered so much destruction.”

Last year, UA’s Ad Team placed second in the national competition after winning at districts. Their “Push to Start” campaign recently won several ADDY Awards from the Tuscaloosa chapter of the American Advertising Federation.

This year, 4i Design hopes to return from nationals with a first place title. First, the team must win at districts in Jackson, Miss. from April 18-20.

“We’ve learned our campaign from cover to cover,” said Wolford. “We hope that this year we’ll be returning with a trophy.”
