ANNOUNCEMENTS

Free flu shots will be offered to University students, faculty and staff on Wednesday, Feb. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the lobby of the theater at the Ferguson Center. The clinic will be led by the University Medical Center and the Student Health Center. Nurses from both centers will administer the shots. University health insurance is not required for a flu shot.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone ages six months and older get a flu vaccine each year. The seasonal flu vaccine protects against three influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the flu season. Risks associated with a flu shot are extremely small, and the viruses in the flu shot are inactivated so they cannot cause the flu. Click here for more information.

Though everyday preventive actions, such as hand washing, can help prevent transmission of many types of germs, the CDC says the best way to avoid influenza infection is to get vaccinated. For more information about the flu-shot clinic, contact David Brown, RN, BSN, at 348-3854 or dbrown@cchs.ua.edu.
