Fallen Soldier Recognition, WWI Plaque to be Part of UA Veterans Affairs Office Opening

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will hold a grand opening for the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs on Friday, Nov. 16, from 2-4 p.m. in 1 B.B. Comer as the closing highlight of Veterans Week events on campus.

Aside from the ribbon cutting and the showcase of the Office’s new space will be the reveal of a WWI memorial plaque recognizing 45 Tuscaloosa veterans who died during the war, to be unveiled by Col. Duane Lamb, assistant vice president of UA Facilities and Grounds.

Also on the agenda is a presentation on UA graduate and Senior Airman Mark Forester to be given by the American Fallen Soldiers Project (http://www.markaforester.com/). AFSP creates memorial portraits for men and women who have lost their lives in combat (http://www.americanfallensoldiers.com/).

“The Grand Opening is an opportunity for the UA and Tuscaloosa community to see firsthand the priority the Capstone has placed on our student veterans, dependents and service members, not just during Veterans Week but for the years to come,” said Alex Karagas, coordinator of UA Veteran and Military Affairs.
