Homecoming activities. The annual homecoming pep rally will be held on the steps of Gorgas Library today at 7 p.m. The homecoming queen will be announced, and a bonfire will follow. The NPHC Step Show will also be held today from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. in Foster Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m.
The homecoming parade begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, going from downtown Tuscaloosa to the UA campus. Parade grand marshals are UA head coaches Patrick Murphy, women’s softball; Mic Potter, women’s golf; and Sarah Patterson, women’s gymnastics. All three coaches are being honored for leading their teams to national championship titles.
Know how to get in the game. The Saturday, Oct. 27, football game against Mississippi State kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium and will be televised on ESPN. Students who currently have tickets or need tickets to the game will want to know how to “Get in the Game,” how the changes to the way student tickets are handled, how to enter the stadium (Gate 31 only) and how parking near the stadium affects them. Students must be able to be identified with their photos on their Action Cards and their faces must be completely visible to be admitted to the football game. Individuals wearing masks, face coverings or heavy makeup are subject to being denied entrance to the game.
Game-day parking reminder. On game-day weekends during football season, many parking lots are used for Tide Pride and game-day parking. The following lots and areas must be vacated by 5 p.m. on Fridays of all home games: Colonial Drive south of Eighth Street, the south one-third section of the Coleman Coliseum lot, the Tutwiler main lot and “triangle” lot, the lower Student Recreation Center lot, the Northeast Campus Drive lot and the large lot east of the Moody Music Building. Game-day parking for orange residential parking permits. Students with orange residential parking permits who normally park in the Tutwiler, Northeast Stadium or Colonial Drive lots will be able to gain temporary access to the Ferguson or Campus Drive parking decks from noon until midnight on the Fridays before a home football game. To gain free access, students can swipe their Action Cards in the A-slot in one of the two decks. Students should not use the B-slot or $5 will be deducted from their Bama Cash accounts. Action Cards will be activated each Friday before a home game. Students must return their vehicles to an orange residential zone by 7 a.m. on the Monday following the game.
Denny Chimes will play “Celebrating Achievement” today at noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. in honor of Lamea “Elle” Shaaban-Magana, director of the UA Women’s Resource Center. Shaaban-Magana will receive the National Women’s Studies Association Lifetime Achievement Award for her accomplishments in women’s services in higher education. “Celebrating Achievement” is a new song designed to publicly recognize and celebrate UA students, faculty and staff who achieve national recognition, awards and honors.
