TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama School of Social Work will open its 2012 Fall Colloquium Series Monday, Sept. 24, with guest lecturer Kimble Forrister.
Forrister will discuss “Current Policy Issues Affecting Low Income Alabamians.” His talk, and subsequent talks in the series, will be held from noon-1 p.m. in 104 Little Hall on the UA campus.
Forrister is the state coordinator of Alabama Arise, a coalition of 150 congregations and organizations that promotes fairer public policies on issues affecting low-income Alabamians.
The series will continue through the fall semester with the following speakers:
Monday, Oct. 8: Dr. Robert M. Ortega, associate professor of Social Work at the University of Michigan. He will discuss, “Finding the Place for Humility in Culturally Responsive Practice.”
Monday, Nov. 5: Dr. Lori K. Holleran Steiker, associate professor of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. She will discuss, “Navigating Adolescent Substance Abuse: Innovative, Evidence-Based Prevention & Intervention.”
The lectures are free and open to the University community and the general public. Continuing Education Units will be available.
