TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reopening of the renovated first floor of Rodgers Science and Engineering Library will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, on the first floor of Rodgers, part of The University of Alabama Libraries.

The project, which involved moving more than 25,000 bound volumes, features new computer tables, wide-screen monitors, high-end Dell and Mac computers, large screen televisions and a wall-mounted projection system.

The library also added group-study and soft-seating areas to foster collaboration. To accommodate the new technology, project planners were able to use existing infrastructure to accommodate data and power, making this part of the project less expensive and, ultimately, in harmony with the furnishings and equipment added later.

“Creating better facilities is an ongoing goal of the UA Libraries,” said Dr. Louis A. Pitschmann, dean of UA Libraries. “By renovating facilities, UA Libraries are well-positioned to respond to changes in the environment, students’ needs and to the opportunities technology affords.”

For the project, UA Libraries received a gift from the estate of retired University of Alabama math professors Richard and Edith Ainsworth of Northport.
