UA to collect school supply donations

Supplies will be collected through Aug. 15 at sites on the University of Alabama campus as part of the Stuff the Bus back to school drive. The supplies will be donated to students and teachers at Alberta and Holt elementary schools. Items needed include: art supplies, Clorox wipes, reams of colored paper, index cards, hand sanitizer, dry erase markers/erasers/cleaner, manila file folders, paper towels, boxes, pencil top erasers, Sharpie markers, 2-inch ring binders, Ziploc bags (all sizes) and hand soap. Drop boxes for the supplies will be at: Ferguson Center Supply Store, Amelia Gayle Gorgas Library (second floor next to the elevators), Bidgood Hall (lower level next to Student Services), Mary Harmon Bryant (second floor — Hoole Library), Ancillary Services Building (Room 202), or Hardaway Hall (second floor lobby by stairs).
UAPD participates in national night out event

Another “night out” event is taking place right now at Annette Shelby Park in Tuscaloosa. That’s at the corner of Queen City Avenue and 15th Street. Tuscaloosa, Northport and University of Alabama Police, as well as Tuscaloosa and Northport Fire and Rescue showed up and brought some of their tools for folks to check out. Things wrap up there at 7:30. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office will hold its “national night out” event Saturday at Tannehill State Park.
