ANNOUNCEMENTS
Students and others who are interested in participating in the UA Day of Service on Saturday, April 21 can register as a volunteer by visiting http://www.ua.edu/features/service/dayofservice.html. UA Remembers: A Day of Service will be held April 21, as a time to remember the first anniversary of the April 27, 2011, tornado by bringing UA and the community together to serve others. Volunteers will meet on campus the morning of April 21 and be transported to one of three work sites located along the path of the tornado. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., volunteers will clean and beautify tornado-damaged areas. Afterwards, volunteers will return to UA for a brief program and lunch. The UA Day of Service begins a week of events and remembrances that will culminate in the city of Tuscaloosa’s memorial service on April 27. The deadline to sign up for the UA Day of Service is April 17.

Details and dates for the sale of student football tickets for the 2012 season have been finalized. For UA students who will return in the fall, the sale will occur during five days based on each student’s credit hours as of Fall Semester 2011. These are UA hours and do not include transfer or AP hours. Note the following important dates:

Following is a timeline that explains what each student needs to do to participate in the ticket sale.
Now through April 11
All currently enrolled students should go to the home tab on https://mybama.ua.edu and click on “Opt in to Purchase Student Football Tickets” in the upper left-hand corner. Students must opt in to be eligible to purchase student football tickets for the 2012 season. This is not first-come, first-served, so students can complete the opt-in process anytime through. 5 p.m. CDT on April 11.
April 12
Students who complete the opt-in process will receive an email informing them which date they can go online to purchase tickets. Sale days will be assigned based on total credit hours earned at UA.
April 16-20
Each student’s credit hours determine which day a student will have the opportunity to participate. The University will allocate tickets for each sales day based on the percentage that each group represents in the total group of students who have completed the opt-in process. For example, if 27 percent of students who have opted in have between 31 and 60 hours, 27 percent of the tickets will be allocated for sale on that day. Following is the breakdown for each sales day:
Monday, April 16: graduate and professional students
Tuesday, April 17: 91 or more credit hours
Wednesday, April 18: 61-90 credit hours
Thursday, April 19: 31-60 credit hours
Friday, April 20: 0-30 credit hours
Student packages will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis each sales day, with a limit of one package per student. Tickets are nonrefundable. Contact the Alabama Ticket Office at 348-2262 with questions.
Students graduating in Spring Semester 2012 must be admitted to the Graduate School or School of Law before the end of the day on April 2 to be included in the returning-student sale. New campus-based students (freshmen, transfers, graduates, others) and students who receive undergraduate degrees from UA in Spring Semester 2012 and who are admitted to a graduate program after April 2 will be included in the new-student sale that begins June 4.
April 23-24
UA students enrolled during Spring Semester 2012 who wish to purchase tickets to away football games must place their names on a waiting list by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 24. Tickets will be allocated to students on the waiting list based on UA credit hours earned as of Fall Semester 2011. Requesting a ticket does not guarantee a purchase. Requests will be sorted by credit hours earned at UA (highest to lowest) and filled until the student inventory for each game is exhausted. This is not a first-come, first-served ticket sale. Students will go to http://www.rolltide.com and log in to the Athletics Ticket Office’s Paciolan system to request tickets.
April 26-27
On April 25, an email will be sent to students notifying them of the UA earned credit-hour cutoff for each game, and the information will be posted on http://www.rolltide.com and in Coleman Coliseum at the Athletics Ticket Office. Payment for tickets will take place April 26 at 8 a.m. through April 27 at 5 p.m. On those dates, students may log in to their Athletics Ticket Office’s Paciolan account through http://www.rolltide.com, view the online application and submit credit-card information for payment or pay at the Ticket Office window in Coleman Coliseum. Tickets are nonrefundable. The Athletics Ticket Office will send more information and details to students’ official UA Crimson email accounts. An outage of all external network connectivity will start at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 15, and last four hours. The outage is necessary to perform network routing changes in support of the Office of Information Technology’s Continuity of Operations Plan. No one will have access to the public Internet from the UA campus during the outage, which will not affect UA internal network. An off-campus backup Web server will handle all external requests to http://www.ua.edu during the outage; only limited information will be available. The Health Hut is accepting applications for internships from students of all majors who have a passion for promoting healthy lifestyles. The Health Hut is a daily health education outreach program run by the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness in UA’s Student Health Center. Applications for director positions with the Student Government Association are available online through April 17. Standing committee applications are also available. Students can apply for both; however, director applications will take priority. An individual who is selected for a director position will no longer be eligible for a standing committee position. STUDENT INVOLVEMENT AND COMMUNITY SERVICE
Students can apply to be a part of the Nonprofit Protégé Program, an eight-week experience that allows UA students to walk in the shoes of a nonprofit administrator or CEO in the state of Alabama. Approximate dates for the program will be May 15 to July 1 and June 15 to Aug. 1. A limited number of students will be selected and matched to work with leaders from agencies in various cities across the state. The Community Service Center and several student organizations on campus will host a “Hands on Tuscaloosa” service day Friday, April 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Check-in begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center pool-parking lot. The Good Samaritan Clinic at 3880 Watermelon Road in Northport, Ala., is looking for volunteers for a community fundraiser that will be held on April 21. The 30-Day-Tobacco-Free Challenge will be held throughout April to help University students, faculty and staff give up tobacco. The Health Hut will feature smoking as its topic now through April 20. Students can stop by any Health Hut location to receive resources and tips on smoking cessation. The Homegrown Alabama farmers market opens April 12, for its fifth year of operation. The market will be held each Thursday through October from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the lawn of Canterbury Episcopal Chapel, which is located across from Mary Burke Hall on Hackberry Lane. The market offers fresh produce, goat cheese, grass-fed beef and pork, cut flowers, baked goods and more. The first market will feature chef demonstrations, childrens’ crafts and music. Mental Health Monologues will be presented Thursday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. in 38 Lloyd Hall. Refreshments and conversation will follow the show. Mental Health Monologues is a project that collects anonymous essay submissions from students on campus about their personal struggles with mental illness. The submissions are then used as monologues performed by actors during a staged performance as a means to erase the stigma surrounding the discussion and treatment of mental illness.
Adam Hill and Brooke Howell will showcase their sculpture, ceramics and graphic design artwork April 30-May 11 at Harrison Galleries in downtown Tuscaloosa. The two seniors will graduate in May with bachelor’s degrees in studio art.
