Community Service Center at UA Offers Nonprofit Protege Summer Program

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The University of Alabama Community Service Center is partnering with the Alabama Association of Nonprofits for the Nonprofit Protege Summer Program.

The Nonprofit Protege program is an eight-week experience that allows UA students to walk in the shoes of a nonprofit administrator/CEO in Alabama. Approximate dates for the program will be May 15-July 15 and June 15-Aug. 1.

A limited number of students will be selected and matched to work with an organization leader from agencies in various cities across the state of Alabama. This is an opportunity to get students connected to nonprofits where they will be residing for the summer, so housing and transportation will not be provided.

Students are required to be of at least sophomore standing at UA by spring of 2012 and have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA.

Students can pick up an application in 346 Ferguson Center or online at www.volunteer.ua.edu. Applications are due no later than Friday, April 20 at 5 p.m. to the CSC.

Some of the program requirements include participating in an orientation session, communicating with the nonprofit mentor to create a weekly schedule at the agency, signing a confidentiality document and developing an initiative to increase UA’s volunteer contributions to the nonprofit organization.

“We are excited to help connect students to nonprofits across the state of Alabama. This is a way for students who are home this summer to take advantage of a great opportunity,” said Joshua M. Cirulnick, director of community outreach and membership.
