UA Advertising, PR Department Commended in State House of Representatives

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The University of Alabama’s advertising and public relations department recently was commended in the Alabama House of Representatives for its repeat performance as a finalist in the PR Week PR Education Program of the Year contest.

The proclamation states that the department demonstrates “the utmost commitment to develop students for excellence” and “is a source of pride to the state.”

Dr. Joseph Phelps, department chair, said the commendation was a delightful surprise.

“It is an honor for the good work of our students, faculty and staff to be recognized in an official Commendation from the State of Alabama House of Representatives,” he said. “This recognition was facilitated by State Representative John Merrill, and we thank him and all of the State Representatives.”

The PR program, a division of the College of Communication and Information Sciences, was named by PR Week as one of the top five PR education programs in the nation. This was the fourth consecutive year the program received the honor.
