UA Students Rewarded for Parking Correctly

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Parking according to The University of Alabama’s rules and regulations can have unexpected benefits. Five UA students have been awarded $100 scholarships, just for parking correctly.

Jonathan Foster, Hans Heinert, Bradford Thompson, Crisman Traywick and Myra Vickery are the first recipients of the Positive Parking Incentive scholarships, co-sponsored by the UA department of transportation services and the Student Government Association Judicial Board. The program was established last summer to encourage students to park correctly on campus.

“Parking is one of the biggest concerns for students,” said Tara Ward, chief justice of the judicial board. “We wanted to inspire students to park properly.”

The winning students’ names were randomly selected by computer from the names of all students with parking permits who received no parking citations or warnings during the fall semester.

“We are excited to partner with the judicial board to provide these incentives, and we appreciate Tara’s innovative leadership in developing this program,” said Chris D’Esposito, assistant director of transportation services.

“We understand that it can sometimes be challenging to park according to the University rules and regulations, but doing so provides a safe and efficient environment for everyone. We appreciate all the students who make every effort to park correctly, and we hope this incentive program will be an encouragement to all students to take the time to park safely.”

The scholarships will be awarded following each semester, and the scholarship funds will be credited to the winners’ student accounts.
