Registration for Quidditch on the Quad, Oct. 21

ANNOUNCEMENTS

By Oct. 15 of each year, each coeducational institution of higher education that participates in any federal student aid program and has an intercollegiate athletic program must prepare an Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act report and make it available upon request to students, potential students and the public. The University of Alabama Department of Intercollegiate Athletics’ EADA report can be accessed at https://eada.ia.ua.edu. A paper copy of the report will be provided upon request by contacting the Office of University Relations.

The Women’s Resource Center asks members of the UA community to wear purple ribbons during October to raise awareness of dating and domestic violence. To obtain a ribbon, contact the WRC at wrc@sa.ua.edu or 348-5040. Click here to see a list of events for the month.

The University Supply Store will operate special game-day hours on Saturday, Oct. 22, prior to the football game between Alabama and Tennessee. Hours and locations are as follows: Ferguson Center, 9:30 a.m.- 5:45 p.m.; tent on the Quad, 9 a.m.-5:45 p.m.; and Bryant Museum Gift Shop, 9 a.m.-6 p.m.

ATHLETICS

This weekend’s football game against Tennessee kicks off Oct. 22 at 6:15 p.m. at Bryant-Denny Stadium and will be televised on ESPN2. The latest game-day information is available at http://www.uagameday.com. Also, fans can stay in the know via Facebook, Twitter and UA’s mobile website.

Members of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity will compete in a wheelchair basketball game against the UA men’s wheelchair basketball team on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center. The event will be a fundraiser for the wheelchair basketball team with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the team. Admission is $5. Phi Gamma Delta will start the game with a large lead to make things interesting. More information: Will Scogin at willscogin@gmail.com.

Women’s soccer vs. Tennessee, Oct. 20, 7 p.m., Soccer Stadium

EVENTS

All males are invited to race around sorority row on Oct. 18 in high heels to raise awareness for the prevention of domestic violence. Registration is at 5:30 p.m. at the Alpha Chi Omega house, and there is a $10 fee. Everyone is invited to watch the race at 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted and will go to a local shelter for battered women and children. There will be prizes and a disc jockey. An off-campus-housing fair will be held on Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the main floor of the Ferguson Center. Students looking for off-campus housing options can meet with and talk to representatives from more than 25 rental properties in the Tuscaloosa area. Several organizations will march from Malone-Hood Plaza (located in front of Foster Auditorium) to the Ferguson Center at noon on Oct. 19 in response to several incidents involving intolerance of others. The University Libraries and Gorgas Information Services will hold a workshop on Facebook privacy on Oct. 19 from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in 205 Gorgas Library. Refreshments will be provided. More information: Nancy Fawley at nefawley@ua.edu or 348-1976.

The Academic Honor Council will host Integrity Day on Nov. 3 at the Ferguson Center Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students can meet the justices from each of the colleges and schools on campus and learn about the importance of academic integrity. There will be giveaways from every college and school, games, food and a chance to win book scholarships or football tickets to the UA vs. LSU football game. UA’s Creative Campus will host Quidditch on the Quad, a campuswide muggle-quidditch tournament, on Nov. 13 in collaboration with University Recreation. Preliminary rounds will be held at the recreational fields on Nov. 10. UA students are invited to form teams and register through Oct. 21 on the Creative Campus website. The teams must be co-ed, represent a specific country and follow a University Recreation revised edition of the International Quidditch Association rule book. Any student interested in volunteering as a snitch, typically a cross-country runner dressed completely in gold, or as a troubadour, minstrel, character actor or enthusiastic muggle can register online at http://www.uacreativecampus.org. HALLOWEEN ACTIVITIES

The UA Junior Panhellenic delegates will host the annual Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Children 12 and under are invited to dress up in Halloween costumes and trick-or-treat at sorority houses located on Magnolia and Colonial Drives. Sororities will have candy and games for children and will also wear Halloween costumes. Junior Panhellenic is a philanthropic program composed of freshman delegates serving as understudies to the Alabama Panhellenic Association delegates and executive board members. The UA Student Athlete Advisory Committee will host its ninth annual Halloween Extravaganza for children ages 13 years and youger on Oct. 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the indoor football practice facility. Children can dress up and play games with some of their favorite Alabama athletes. More information: Jill Lancaster at jlancaster@ia.ua.edu.

The Student Alumni Association will host its annual Halloween Festival on Oct. 31 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the lawn of Alumni Hall. Children are invited to dress in costumes and come play games, decorate cookies and receive candy. More information: 348-1533.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Students can volunteer at Temporary Emergency Services on Thursdays, 1-3 p.m., for the rest of the semester. Volunteers will prepare food bags and organize donations. The Sunday Student Service Initiative occurs every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Students meet at the Tuscaloosa Area Volunteer Reception Center at 2512 University Blvd. E. to receive service assignments in the field of debris removal that is within walking distance of the TARVC.
