ANNOUNCEMENTS

Several informative sessions regarding UA’s new bicycle policy have been scheduled. These forums will give students, faculty and staff an opportunity to discuss bicycle registration, bike-rack placement and policy enforcement. The forums are scheduled as follows: Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. in 312 Ferguson Student Center and 6 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center activity room; and Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. in the Ferguson Center Forum and 6 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center activity room.

UA students, including victims of the April storms, can receive free legal assistance from the UA School of Law Civil Clinic. Legal matters for which students can seek assistance include landlord-tenant disputes, other housing issues, automobile accidents, insurance matters, property matters, contract issues, consumer problems and even some municipal violations. Students can call 348-4960 for appointments.

Writing Center consultants are available in Java City for drop-in appointments on Mondays and Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. during the fall semester. Java City is located on the first floor of Gorgas Library.

The University Libraries and Gorgas Information Services are introducing a series of workshops for undergraduate students. The first will be held Sept. 21, 1-2 p.m., at 205 Gorgas Library and will focus on Twitter as an information source. Refreshments will be provided. STUDENT AFFAIRS

The sign-up period for the High Tide Club is underway. High Tide Club is the best way for students to experience Alabama football in the upper deck. Members have reserved seating in the upper bowl for every home game. Additional benefits include a free concession coupon for all home games for the first 1,000 HTC members who enter the stadium; easier access to the stadium through the High Tide Club express entrance at Gate 30; an exclusive tailgate, membership wristband and free T-shirt for the LSU game; an opportunity to win $500 book scholarships; and other giveaways and prizes throughout the season. First Year Council applications are due by 5 p.m. on Sept. 19. Submit applications to the Student Government Association office at 231 Ferguson Student Center. Each applicant must attach a résumé with his or her application. A list of applicants selected for interviews will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the SGA office and notified by email by noon on Sept. 21. Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority Inc. will hold meetings on Sept. 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. in 204-A Ferguson Student Center for all undergraduate and graduate women interested in fall recruitment. Delta Xi Phi strives to uphold the pillars of multiculturalism, advancement of women through higher education, community service, sisterhood and friendship. The Avanti Team supports the recruitment objectives of the University through service with Bama Bound Orientation and other events throughout the academic year. UA students can baby-sit for other UA students who have children in exchange for earning community service hours recognized by the University. Participants in the Sitters for Service program have the opportunity to earn 20, 30 or 40 hours of community service during the semester. EVENTS

An event to support student-leadership scholarships at UA will be held Sept. 15, 5-10 p.m., at McAlister’s Deli in Tuscaloosa and Northport. Hosts are the Future Alumni for Tradition and Excellence, the Student Alumni Association and the Tuscaloosa County chapter of UA’s National Alumni Association. A portion of all proceeds from the event will benefit the annual scholarship recipients of the Student Alumni Association and the Tuscaloosa County alumni chapter scholarships. All UA students are invited to College Night at the Museum for food, music, exhibits, activities and prizes. The free event will be held Sept. 19, 6-9 p.m., in Smith Hall. More information: programs@ua.edu.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Students can join a Beat Auburn Beat Hunger volunteer committee by completing the online form found at http://volunteer.ua.edu/babh.cfm. BABH committees include Campus Partners, Community Partners, Food Bank Logistics, Fundraising and Publicity. Descriptions of each committee can be found on the online form.
