TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Insurance Day 2011 will be Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Bryant Conference Center at The University of Alabama, and it will feature Winston Groom, author of the novel “Forrest Gump,” as the luncheon speaker.
The novel depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, an Alabama simpleton who travels across the world, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture and experiencing firsthand some of the historic events of the late 20th century.
Insurance Day is presented by The University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies, the Culverhouse College of Commerce insurance program, the Alabama Department of Insurance and the Alabama Insurance Planning Commission.
The program will include three separate tracks for continuing education credit: Property/liability insurance; life/health insurance; insurance functions/risk management.
General sessions will be held at the Bryant Conference Center, and lunch will be served in Sellers Auditorium.
“This is a great opportunity for professionals who work in, and with, the property-casualty or life-health insurance industry,” said Dr. William Rabel, professor of finance and head of the insurance program at the Culverhouse College of Commerce.
Rabel said the programs are designed for actuaries and rate analysts, attorneys, bankers, claims adjusters, insurance agents, insurance executives, insurance software and technology vendors, insurance underwriters, legislators, risk managers, finance and insurance educators and finance and insurance students.
The program will begin at 8:15 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast, followed by a welcome and introductions by Jack E. Brunson, CPCU, president of National Security Fire & Casualty Co., of Elba.
