ANNOUNCEMENTS

In order to better serve UA students during fall move-in, several UA offices will be open special weekend hours. Action Card and Parking Services, both located in the Student Services Center, will be open on Aug. 13 and Aug. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. University Supply Store hours will be as follows: Aug. 13, the Ferguson branch will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; the Tutwiler branch will be open 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and the law school branch will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On Aug. 20, the Ferguson and Tutwiler branches will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and the law school branch will be open 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On Aug. 14 and Aug. 21, both the Ferguson and Tutwiler locations will be open 12:30-5 p.m. Students should take advantage of these special hours, when lines tend to be shorter.

Tuscaloosa Transit Authority, in partnership with Crimson Ride, now provides a new route from the downtown Intermodal Facility at 601 23rd Ave. to the UA campus and back. The bus runs a complete route each half hour from 5 a.m. until 6 p.m. each Monday through Friday during the year except on holidays. UA students, faculty and staff can park free of charge at the downtown facility and ride the bus free of charge with a UA Action Card. For route details, visit http://crimsonride.ua.edu.

The University conducted a test of its emergency-notification system, UA Alerts, on Aug. 3. Students should update their contact information on myBama if they did not receive notification through their cellphones or myBama email accounts. To view and make changes to their information online, students can log in to their myBama accounts at http://mybama.ua.edu. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Looking for a way to help new freshmen and their families feel welcome on campus? Volunteer for Move-In Days, Aug. 12-14 and Aug. 20-21. Individual students and student organizations also get “perks” for completing one or more volunteer shifts.

Project Team Up seeks one to two volunteers to work daily in the Holt area from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work will be indoors and includes coordinating the “front desk” and volunteer crews. Students who are interested in participating should email Janet Griffith at janet.griffith@ua.edu for further information.

The Community Service Center will host its annual Ripple Effect Freshman Service Day on Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check-in and on-site registration will begin at 9 a.m. in the Ferguson Plaza. Students will work together on various service projects throughout the city and return to campus for lunch together. The Al’s Pals Mentorship Program is seeking mentors for a free after-school program that will pair UA students with local elementary school students in first through fifth grades. The program will be offered Tuesday through Thursday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at McKenzie Court Community Center and Oakdale Elementary School. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher in order to serve as mentors. Applications are available online here from the Community Service Center website or here from the Ferguson Student Center website. Completed applications can be emailed to alspalua@gmail.com or returned to the Community Service Center at 346 Ferguson Student Center by Sept. 1. Interviews are occurring now through Sept. 2.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

The Jump In recruitment fair will be held Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to noon on the front lawn of the Office of Student Media. The fair provides an opportunity to meet with and gather information from all student media. OSM publications provide opportunities to students for real-life experiences in a variety of areas. TRAFFIC

Hackberry Lane south of University Boulevard will be closed at the intersection of University Boulevard through Aug. 11 to install a storm drain and line. Flagmen will be present to help direct traffic.

Construction of sewer lines will affect traffic in the area of Wallace Wade Avenue and Sixth Street through Aug. 15. During this time, the normal entry points for the northwest stadium lot and the Wallace Wade commuter lot will remain accessible, but traffic may be slowed due to the presence of workmen. Please adjust your travel plans accordingly.

ATHLETICS

This football season, changes to some game-day operations have been made. Click here to read the latest information on parking, traffic, communication and tailgating. Fans can sign up for Facebook and Twitter updates, and a mobile website is also available.
