The Office of Information Technology warns of an email scam with the subject, “FBI Alert/IRS.” UA employees, staff and students who receive the email should delete it immediately without opening it. Those who have opened the email should contact the UA Police Department to file a report. A copy of the scam is being forwarded to UAPD and the FBI. A letter attached to the email requests that readers send money to the IRS. In return, they will receive a large sum of money if they follow the instructions; those who do not follow the instructions will face consequences. The email and attached letter look official but are not. People can contact Ashley Ewing at 348-6524 or aewing@ua.edu if they have questions regarding this scam alert.

The Student Health Center is switching to the NextGen electronic medical-record system. To make the transition smoother, students are asked to bring their insurance cards and photo identifications with them when they visit the health center. The Student Health Center is located at 750 Fifth Ave. E. More information: David Wilkins at dwilkins@cchs.ua.edu or 348-0108.

The website also has options that will allow users to vote on or grade the ideas of fellow users. Also, at http://tuscaloosaforward.com residents will be able to follow along with the progress of a rebuilding task force and its consultants as they work toward a July 15 deadline to craft a preliminary master plan for development.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

The Student Government Association is seeking student opinion regarding SGA projects and programs. Students can complete a brief 10-question survey at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/8BTFDG8.

ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

UA students attending the second summer session can work for various tornado relief agencies and receive up to 6 hours of internship credit. Although internship requirements vary by UA departments and internship directors, receiving 3 hours of credit commonly requires 150 hours of community service and an academic exercise such as a term paper, work diary or annotated bibliography. Students not interested in receiving academic credit can still sign up for an internship. To apply, complete the form at http://goo.gl/LLMP8. For more information, visit https://sites.google.com/site/disasterreliefinternships. Applicants should be aware that since the internships will be unpaid, and depending on the degree of interest expressed, UA might not be able to place all students.

Non-music majors who play violin, viola, cello or double bass and are interested in earning a scholarship to play in UA’s Huxford Symphony Orchestra should contact Dr. Demondrae Thurman at dthurman@music.ua.edu. All interested students will be required to audition and, upon acceptance, must register for the orchestra as a class (MUA 150/350/550 for 1 credit hour). The Huxford Symphony Orchestra rehearses on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.

Always remember to check the Crimson Calendar for all the week’s events.
