UA biz programs ranked by Bloomberg

…programs in the University of Alabama‘s Culverhouse College of Commerce were ranked nationally following a survey by Bloomberg BusinessWeek. According to a release from the school, its corporate strategy program was ranked No. 28 in the nation, while its operations management program was ranked No. 29. The Culverhouse College of Commerce was ranked No. 75 overall.

UA Greek Relief raises $135,000

…“Right now, we are up to $135,000 raised, with donations coming from all across the country,” Patrick Morris, co-chairman of UA Greek Relief, said. “We have begun to meet, and we are working with the city on ways we can use this money to help, because we want to get this money to the right people…Even though they have already done a lot for the city, there is still more to be done. Morris said the group plans to continue raising money and helping the city until the end of the calendar year. “We have decided that our end date will be the end of the calendar year,” Morris said. “We don’t have a specific number goal, but I can tell you that we are going to be full force fundraising as much as we can. I would love to double what we have now. We have $135,000 now, and I would love to be at $300,000 or $400,000 by the time we are done. The sky is the limit.

Tornado Song Sends Hopeful Message

…Three UA alumni, Ryan Davis, Andrew Cotten and Michael Battito, wrote a song called “5:13” to send a message of hope to the people of Tuscaloosa…The students said the song is for sale and will be put on iTunes soon. For now, the song can be found on cdbaby.com. The proceeds from the song will go directly to the Tornado Relief Fund…
UA professor talks about impact of tornado replays on small children

With scores of deadly tornadoes across the country in the last few weeks the coverage could have a negative effect on your kids. Mary Elizabeth Curtner-Smith is a family studies professor at the University of Alabama. She was just two miles from the tornado in Tuscaloosa earlier this year. “When they simply see replays of the Tuscaloosa tornado, young children may not understand that that’s just video being replayed, they may think that it’s actually occurring as many times as they see it on TV.”
UA student survives two deadly storms

Like many University of Alabama students, Emily Fuller decided to head home after the University cancelled finals in the wake of the April 27 tornado. Looking forward to being home and away from the destruction, she packed up and headed to Joplin, Mo. just two days after the tornado. Fuller never imagined that after three weeks of being home she would survive a second deadly tornado. “It’s really surreal,” she said. “It hasn’t really hit me that I survived two of the strongest storms in history, but it’s crazy to think about.”…
