ANNOUNCEMENTS

The city of Tuscaloosa will host a Spirit of Tuscaloosa Candlelight Vigil on June 1 at 8 p.m. at the Government Plaza in downtown Tuscaloosa. This event will honor the victims that were killed or injured in the April 27 tornado and acknowledge the selfless service of the people who responded to the needs of those affected. All members of the public are invited to the free vigil.

Colonial Drive will be closed from University Boulevard past Eighth Street beginning Thursday, June 2, until Thursday, June 30, to allow for the installation of new storm drains. During this same time, Magnolia Drive will be open from Bryant Drive up to the entrance to the Barnwell parking lot.

Volunteers are needed May 31-June 14 for Dressing Up! Tuscaloosa, an event to help women affected by the recent tornado. New York-based apparel manufacturer Alfred Dunner is donating thousands of new women’s garments to be distributed in Tuscaloosa to tornado survivors. Volunteers are needed May 31-June 8 to help prepare for the event and then during the event to help individuals with their clothing needs. The garments will be distributed June 9-14 at Central High School.
