TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – To help raise awareness of WellBama on campus, the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness has partnered with University of Alabama seniors who are studying public relations.
These students are currently enrolled in their Capstone course, which involves the creation of a full public relations campaign for a class client.
“This has been an excellent opportunity for students to work directly with a real client to develop a public relations campaign,” said Dr. Suzanne Horsley, assistant professor in the UA department of advertising and public relations.
WellBama screenings include an assessment of height and weight, blood pressure and blood work to evaluate cholesterol, glucose and triglyceride levels. Following the screening, employees consult with a health coach who can assist them with recommendations related to nutrition, weight management, physical activity and more.
The screenings take about 30 minutes and are conducted by health professionals in the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness, with assistance from students in the UA Capstone College of Nursing.
“WellBama is an excellent opportunity for faculty and staff to better understand their health and the health-related resources available on and around campus,” said Dr. Rebecca Kelly, director of the Office of Health Promotion and Wellness.
Free health screenings for UA faculty and staff through the WellBama program will be available Tuesday, April 12, from 7:30 -11 a.m. in Doster Hall.
The screenings are available for benefits-eligible employees and are regularly offered on campus throughout the year, helping to promote health and improve the quality of life for all employees.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register for screenings through their myBama account. Walk-in screenings are available as well.
