TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center will host the 10th annual LUNAFEST film festival on Thursday, March 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the historic Bama Theatre in downtown Tuscaloosa.
LUNAFEST is the only national touring festival of films by, for and about women. The festival provides a national platform for emerging women filmmakers to share their stories and will serve as UA’s signature event for Women’s History Month.
LUNAFEST includes 10 films selected from more than 200 submissions. Final film selection followed a review by a panel of nine women professionals in the fields of film, media, marketing and women’s advocacy.
Films shown will embody a wide range of topics dealing with what it means to be a woman in the 21st century. The festival features a variety of genres, including documentaries and animated shorts.
Price of admission is $12 for students, $18 for UA faculty and staff and $20 for the general public. Tickets are available at the door.
The evening will begin with a silent auction fundraiser and reception. Kobe Japanese Steakhouse will provide sushi and Publix will provide reception desserts. There will be an acoustic performance and also an appearance by Sarah Patterson, head coach of the UA women’s gymnastics team. The film viewing will begin at 7 p.m. Winners of the silent auction will be announced during intermission.
The event is being held as a benefit for the UA Women’s Resource Center and the Breast Cancer Fund.
The UA Women’s Resource Center provides outreach, services and advocacy to empower women and encourage their active and equal participation in the University and community. For more information, go to http://wrc.ua.edu
