Honors Week Recognizes Top Scholars, Leaders at UA

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama will recognize the achievement of outstanding students and faculty during Honors Week activities on campus April 3-8.

The Tapping on the Mound ceremony, a tradition since the early 1900s, will be held Friday, April 8, at 1:30 p.m. on the Mound at the west side of the UA Quad (rain location will be Moody Music Concert Hall). Campuswide honoraries Omicron Delta Kappa, Mortar Board, Blue Key National Honor Society and Anderson Society will induct new members at this time.

Some of the senior honoraries will also be collecting books for donation to a local elementary school during the Tapping on the Mound ceremony.

ODK’s membership is restricted to students of junior standing or above who are in the top 35 percent of their class scholastically and who exhibit leadership.  Mortar Board membership, one of the highest honors granted to college seniors, is based on leadership, scholarship and service.  Blue Key National Honor Society recognizes seniors who represent high scholastic ideals, leadership and diversity of background.  The Anderson Society recognizes UA students who have made significant contributions to the University or the Tuscaloosa community.
