During the panel discussion, Autherine Lucy Foster, James Hood and Dr. Sharon Malone Holder and Elvin Malone, both family members of the late Vivian Malone Jones, will discuss UA’s early movement toward desegregation. Dr. E. Culpepper Clark, former dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences and author of the book, “The Schoolhouse Door: Segregation’s Last Stand at The University of Alabama,” will moderate.

Sixth Avenue from Bryant Drive to University Boulevard will be closed from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, and parking on Sixth Avenue will be unavailable in order to accommodate the dedication of the Autherine Lucy Clock Tower and the Malone-Hood Plaza. Students affected by the changes are encouraged to park in the lot located south of University Boulevard and west of the Baptist Student Union building. The dedication of the tower and plaza begins at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. A celebration follows at 2 p.m. Students are invited to both ceremonies.

Seating for former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s conversation with the UA and Stillman College communities on Thursday will be limited. The hour-long event begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Ferguson Student Center. Rice will deliver remarks related to her new book, “Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family,” and then participate in a moderated question-and-answer session. The event will be first come first served for UA and Stillman College students, faculty and staff. Rice will sign copies of her book from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the newly renovated lobby of Foster Auditorium. The book signing will be open to the public.
