Bruno, Rodgers and McLure libraries will close on Oct. 15 at 5 p.m., and Gorgas library will close at 6 p.m. The schedule for Oct. 16 is as follows: Gorgas Library, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Rodgers Library, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; Bruno and McLure libraries, closed. Whenever the libraries are closed, all databases, e-journals and e-books remain fully accessible from the libraries website at: http://www.lib.ua.edu.

The High Tide Club provides an exciting and engaging game-day experience for students attending Alabama home football games. The bottom of the upper deck of the south end zone features reserved seats for High Tide Club members. Benefits include free T-shirts and concession giveaways throughout the season, as well as an opportunity to receive book scholarships. Easier entrance into the stadium will be available at Gate 30. Students can join the High Tide Club for $10, and the membership fee will be charged to their student accounts. More information: http://sga.ua.edu/hightide.cfm.

Registration closes Oct. 15 for undergraduate students to study in Havana, Cuba, in spring 2011. Students can earn 12-15 semester hours. Minimal Spanish is required. The study includes field experiences, round-table discussions with Cuban citizens and historical excursions. More information: Dr. Michael Schnepf.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of Career Connection, a program developed through UA’s Professional Staff Assembly to connect students with UA professionals who hold similar career interests. Through this initiative, students can develop a relationship with a UA professional and participate in a short-term job-shadowing process. EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

This week’s football game against the University of Mississippi will start at 8 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Bryant-Denny Stadium and will be televised live on ESPN2. Visit Action Card Office, http://uagameday.com and http://www.rolltide.com for information.

The Anderson Society senior leadership honorary is selling homecoming T-shirts through Oct. 20 for $10, payable by cash or check. Shirts are available at a table in the Ferguson Student Center Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Shirts can also be purchased from Anderson Society members

Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive continues through Nov. 22. UA won last year’s drive.

Graduating students can place orders for class rings, graduation announcements, regalia and diploma frames during the Graduation Celebration at the Ferguson Center Plaza Oct. 14, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Students can also have their cap and gown graduation portraits taken and choose from various packages for purchase. The Ferguson Center will have a free shuttle taking students to and from The Kentuck Festival of the Arts on Oct. 17, 1-4 p.m. Day passes are $10 at the gate. Housing and Residential Communities will host an Off-Campus Housing Fair on Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., on the main floor of the Ferguson Student Center. Academic Integrity Week is Oct. 18-22. The Academic Honor Council is hosting the following events:

  • Computer Wallpaper Design Competition. Students can submit wallpaper designs that express academic integrity through pictures and quotations to IntegrityContest10@gmail.com by noon, Oct. 18. The winning design will be placed on computers in select computer labs across campus, and the winner will receive a $100 prize. The winner will be announced on Oct. 22.   • “Champions Don’t Cheat. Choose Integrity,” Oct. 20, 7 p.m., 118 Graves Hall. This panel discussion on academic integrity will feature current UA football player Nico Johnson, the AHC president, Student Government Association representatives and faculty members. More information: Angel King.

The Breast Cancer Honor and Remembrance Tree project has started. Students can write messages to breast cancer patients or survivors on pink ribbon ornaments during October at the following locations: Ferguson Student Center, Women’s Resource Center, Capstone Village or Student Health Center. Students are encouraged to wear purple on Oct. 14. UA’s Relay for Life Committee is participating in a nationwide competition called “Paint the Campus Purple.” The weeklong competition is focused on promoting Relay for Life and raising cancer awareness through creative uses of the color purple on college campuses.   • “Telling Amy’s Story,” Oct. 14, 6:30 p.m., 301 Ferguson Student Center; film details the life and death of a woman in an abusive relationship
  • Clothesline Project, Oct. 18-20, Crossroads Lounge, Ferguson Student Center; display of T-shirts personally decorated by domestic violence victims
  • Purple Balloon Campaign, Oct. 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Crimson Promenade; display of 300 purple balloons with purple ribbons and domestic violence statistics attached

Phi Sigma Pi national co-ed honors fraternity is collecting toiletries and beauty products throughout October for a local women’s shelter. Travel-size toiletries are acceptable. More information: Samantha Silor.

The EveryWoman Book Club will discuss “If I Am Missing Or Dead” by Janine Latus Oct. 27 at noon at the University Club to recognize Dating/Domestic Violence Awareness Month. “Call+Response” will be shown for free Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Ferguson Student Center Theater. The documentary is about modern-day human-slave trade. More information: Darby Hess.

The UA Junior Panhellenic will host Sorority Row Trick-or-Treat on Oct. 26, 6-8 p.m. at the sorority houses on Magnolia Drive and Colonial Drive. The event is free and open to the public. More information: Megan Hayes.

“INVASION — Representations of Cancer: Combining Medical and Military Metaphors” by Patricia Davis runs through Oct. 29 in the Ferguson Student Center Art Gallery. This is Davis’ first solo exhibition. She is a McNair Scholar who is majoring in studio art.

Intercollegiate Athletics conducts tours of Bryant-Denny Stadium Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. and noon. Tours are unavailable during University holidays or on Fridays prior to home football games. Tours are $5 per person. Children under 1 are admitted free. Nonprofit organizations or schools may obtain a group rate of $2 per person. Click here for more information.
