TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – A special showcase will take place at The University of Alabama on Wednesday, Sept. 15, featuring the culture of India. The two scheduled events, a yoga workshop and a dance performance, are free and open to the UA and Tuscaloosa communities.
To kick off the showcase, a yoga workshop will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Capstone College of Nursing Building in room 1008. Dr. Vasundhara Doraswamy of Majore, India, who is a renowned Indian guru and performing artist, will host the workshop. It is requested that guests bring their own yoga mats.
The Capstone College of Nursing Building is easily accessible by the Crimson Ride’s Green and Blue routes. For those unable to attend the workshop at 9 a.m., a repeat workshop will take place in the same room from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Also on Sept. 15, a performance of Bharatanatyam will take place at the Ferguson Center Theater from 7-8:30 p.m. Doraswamy will be performing Bharatanatyam, which is one of the oldest classical Indian dance forms.
Both the yoga workshop and the dance performance are sponsored by UA’s department of Asian studies, Capstone International Services, department of theater and dance, International Honors Program and New College.
