TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Dr. Yuping Bao, assistant professor of chemical and biological engineering at The University of Alabama, has been named a recipient of the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities.

Bao is one of 32 recipients of the award, selected from some 114 applicants.
Bao will use the grant funds to support her research project, “Magnetic Nanoparticle Supported Platinum as Heterogeneous Catalyst,” with the ultimate goal of developing efficient heterogeneous catalysts for fuel cell applications.
“It is a great honor to receive this award for myself and for the University,” Bao said. “I really appreciate being nominated, and I am pleased to represent the University.”
In 1837, The University of Alabama became one of the first five universities in the nation to offer engineering classes. Today, UA’s fully accredited College of Engineering has more than 2,700 students and more than 100 faculty. In the last eight years, students in the College have been named USA Today All-USA College Academic Team members, Goldwater scholars, Hollings scholars and Portz scholars.
