UA’s Sarah Moody Gallery Displays Art From Collection

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Sarah Moody Gallery of Art at The University of Alabama winds up its current exhibition season with something for everyone: “An Eyeful: Selections from the Permanent Collection” will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, and continue through June 4.

Each year, the gallery assembles an exhibit from its permanent collection, which began in the late 1960s with an emphasis placed on modern and contemporary art. Much of the collection is devoted to photography and works on paper. In recent years, painting and sculpture have expanded the reach of the collection.

Internationally known artists represented in the collection include Robert Rauschenberg, Sally Mann, Elizabeth Murray, Chuck Close, Lee Krasner, Carrie Mae Weems, Wassily Kandinsky, Luis Jimenez, William T. Wiley, Samuel Mockbee, Robert Kushner, Jim Dine, Judy Pfaff and Walker Evans.

Funding support for the Sarah Moody Gallery of Art comes from the department of art and art history and The College of Arts and Sciences. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to -4:30 p.m. weekdays.
