Lecture Offers UA Students, Community ‘A Taste of the Rich Tradition of Embroidery’

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alastair Macleod, chairman of a premier supplier of embroidery, Hand and Lock School of Embroidery, will lead a public lecture for The University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences and its apparel design program.

Macleod will discuss the history of embroidery and its uses today by showing samples from the Hand and Lock London Atelier and the school archives, which date back to 1767.

The public lecture is free and will take place at the Child Development Research Center lecture room on the UA campus Wednesday, April 7 from 2-4 p.m.

Macleod’s visit is part of the Hand and Lock “A Taste Of the Rich Tradition of Embroidery” Lecture Tour that began in March and includes venues at colleges and universities throughout North America.
