ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Ferguson Center will close on March 12 at 7 p.m. for Spring Break. The building will reopen on March 21 at 10 a.m.

Parking registration for students for 2010-2011 will begin on March 22. The timeframe for students to register for parking is the same as their timeframe to register for classes. Students who register as soon as possible during their registration time will receive priority based on class hours completed. Please note that some zones have changed. Nominations for the Penny Allen Award are now being accepted. This award recognizes one student and one non-student who have made a significant contribution to student life at UA. Nominees should demonstrate the following criteria in order of importance: service and dedication to students, leadership activities, professional and other activities, lack of past recognition. Nominated students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and be an incoming junior or senior. Nominations can be found at www.ferguson.ua.edu under the applications tab. Undergraduate Parent Support is initiating Sitters for Service, a pilot program aimed at providing no-cost babysitting services to students with children. Sitters for Service is seeking undergraduate and graduate students to volunteer for these services in exchange for community service hours. For an application, stop by the Office of the Dean of Students in 230 Ferguson Center or send an e-mail to Jason Doblin.

Training sessions to learn how to navigate the new digital collection “Archive of Americana and World Newspaper Archive” will be March 30 and March 31 in the Osburn Room in Gorgas Library. RSVP to Jill Grogg at 348-7994.

Visit the UA Writing Center for fast, free and friendly help with your writing. The center is located in 322 Lloyd Hall. It is open Monday–Thursday from 8 a.m.–6 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m.–3 p.m. and Sunday 1–6 p.m.  More information: www.as.ua.edu/writingcenter.

Creative Campus is now accepting applications for its 2010-2011 Intern Class. Creative Campus seeks students representative of all 13 UA colleges and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Interns are given a unique opportunity to serve UA and our community by developing innovative ways of approaching art, education, economy and leadership through collaborative student-driven project development and implementation. EVENTS, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT

The Honors College is hosting its first student photography exhibit by Marshall Houston and David Kumbroch titled Portraits: Layers of the Black Belt. The gallery will be on display until March 15 in the Nott Hall second floor lobby. The photojournalism exhibit depicts the lives of seven citizens living in Alabama’s Black Belt region.
