Presidential candidates discuss visions for SGA

This year, two people from the same division of the SGA — external affairs —are competing against each other for an office next year. Matthew Brown and James Fowler are running for the office of SGA president, each with their own unique experiences and accomplishments.

UA graduate living in Chile helps in earthquake relief
WKRG (Mobile) – March 4
…Brittany Alison Beech is a University of Alabama graduate who’s been in Chile since late 2008. She says she gathered clothes from her apartment and went to a local TV station to donate them yesterday.  “So I went into the television station to start helping and people were lined up everywhere passing things, making an assembly line getting donations into the trucks.” Brittany was almost overwhelmed by emotion watching the charity effort.

UA grad determined to defeat seven summits

More than two years have passed since Andrew Hillery graduated from the University, and in two years time, he has climbed three of the seven summits. After Hurricane Katrina displaced his family in 2005, he became determined to fight back against Mother Nature by climbing Mount Everest.

Competition challenges fraternities and sororities to reduce waste

Through the Greeks for Green campaign, part of the SGA Greener Way for UA program, fraternities and sororities on campus are taking steps to help the environment. Greeks for Green started Feb. 9 with a recycling contest for the house that can recycle the most waste. The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of Green Week on April 23. Also announced that day will be the house deemed “most green.”…
