UA Car Tags Raise $3.1 Million for Student Scholarships

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama’s collegiate license tag program raised some $3.1 million during the 2009 fiscal year.  Funds raised through the statewide program are used for scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.

UA’s National Alumni Association raised a total of $3,134,149 through the car tag in the 2009 fiscal year, the most of any university in the state. Auburn came in second with $2,327,415. Statewide, collegiate tags raised a total of $7 million for 26 colleges and universities.

More than 1,400 UA undergraduate students received scholarships through the license program this year, and 32 graduate students received fellowships.

“The license tag program is an excellent way to show your allegiance to the University and to contribute to scholarships,” said Pat Whetstone, director of alumni affairs at UA. “We are thrilled that this program continues to grow each year, and we thank our alumni, friends and fans for their support.”

The license tag received a new look with the issue of a new design in March 2009.  Tags are available at local county license offices. Both numbered and personalized tags are available; the cost is $50 above the normal tag cost. Collegiate tags may be purchased at any time, regardless of an individual’s tag renewal month.
