UA Students Step Up to Fight Illiteracy – More than 700 Volunteers Recruited

The University of Alabama student advocacy group Literacy is the Edge is continuing the campaign against illiteracy in West Alabama with some 700 volunteers recruited and more than 200 of them receiving training as tutors this semester.

UA Celebrates Global Entrepreneurship Week

The University of Alabama has scheduled activities for the observance of Global Entrepreneurship Week, Feb. 22-28, celebrating the heritage of entrepreneurship in America and underscoring opportunities for new entrepreneurs.

UA Ranks 10th in Enrollment of National Merit Scholars

The University of Alabama ranks 10th among more than 600 public universities nationwide in the enrollment of National Merit Scholars for 2009-2010 with 103 scholars in the fall 2009 freshman class. The ranking also places UA 24th among more than 2,400 universities when both public and private institutions are included.

UA Engineering Professor Selected for GENI Research Team

Dr. Xiaoyan Hong, an associate professor of computer science at The University of Alabama, has been selected for one of 33 academic and industry teams to be funded by the National Science Foundation to advance research in network science and engineering in an effort known as GENI.

Dean’s List Students Named for UA Fall Term

A total of 6,234 students enrolled during the 2009 fall term at The University of Alabama made the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 or above (on a 4.0 scale), or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all As).
