The University of Alabama will celebrate the Crimson Tide’s 2009 National Championship on Saturday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m. in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Gates will open at noon. The celebration will last approximately one hour; admission is free. Block seating will not be available for students; seating is first-come, first-served. The first 50,000 fans entering the stadium will receive a poster of the championship team at the Rose Bowl. Coaches and players will not be available for autographs before or after the celebration. Parking options and street closings will be similar to A-Day games. Streets on campus will close at approximately 11 a.m. on Saturday. Colonial Drive will be blocked off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, which means that students who park on Colonial will not be able to move their cars after that time. More information: uagameday.com.
UA is soliciting feedback from the community on the concept of a plaza at Foster Auditorium that will be designed to commemorate the events surrounding the “Stand in the Schoolhouse Door.” Online comments can be made through Jan. 15 by visiting the UA Web site at http://www.ua.edu and clicking on “Foster Auditorium Plaza Renovation” under Quick Links at the bottom of the page.
Creative Campus needs art submissions from student artists of any major for the Alabama Art Display Project. Several buildings on campus will be enhanced with artwork created by UA students. The exhibition of artwork will begin on the UA campus in the spring semester. If student artists are interested in selling their work, they should include a sale price as well as their contact information. Each work must be submitted to Maxwell Hall with an “Alabama Art Display Waiver” that can be found on the Creative Campus Web site at creativecampus.ua.edu. More information: Amanda Barnes.
Undergraduate students of all majors are invited to enter UA’s annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference scheduled for April 15 at the Bryant Conference Center. The event gives students an opportunity to compete for cash prizes and earn practical experience in defending or performing their work before judges. To participate, undergraduate students must register their projects by submitting an application form and abstract describing their projects by March 8. Spring Get On Board Day will be held Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Ferguson Ballroom. The event is an opportunity for students of any classification to see some of the more than 300 student organizations on campus. Free food and door prizes will be available. Catherine Roden-Jones, coordinator of the Alabama Women’s Resource Network, will speak about the issues surrounding women’s imprisonment in Alabama on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 12:30 p.m. in 308 Manly Hall. Roden-Jones’ presentation will be the first in a semester-long series of Brown Bag Lectures sponsored by the Women’s Resource Center and the department of women’s studies and is held in coordination with Women in Prison Awareness Week.

Notecards are on sale to benefit student art scholarships. Artwork by undergraduate fine arts students in the department of art and art history have been made into notecards. Proceeds go toward research scholarships for undergraduate students in the department. A packet of 15 cards costs $20 and features five designs. To buy the notecards, call the department at 348-5967.
