UA Conference Focuses on Latinos, Latinas in U.S. South

The University of Alabama is hosting the first conference to look at the lives of Latinas and Latinos in the southern United States. “Latinas/os in the U.S. South: Immigration, Integration and Identity” will be held Friday, Feb. 19, at the Hotel Capstone on the UA campus.

UA Undergraduates Invited to Enter Research and Creative Activity Conference

Undergraduate students of all majors are invited to attend The University of Alabama’s annual Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference scheduled for April 15 at the Bryant Conference Center. To participate, undergraduate students must register their project by submitting an application form and abstract describing their project by March 8.

Paul R. Jones, Founder of UA Jones Collection of American Art, Dies at 81

Noted art collector Paul R. Jones, a native of Bessemer, Ala., who built one of the largest collections of 20th Century African-American art — now the Paul R. Jones Collection of American Art at The University of Alabama — died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 in Atlanta after a brief illness. He was 81.

Gov. Riley, UA Students Launch Statewide Reading Campaign

Students at The University of Alabama will help kick off the statewide literary campaign “The Big Read: Alabama Reads ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ by Mark Twain” with an event featuring Gov. Bob Riley reading from the book on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. on the Statehouse steps in Montgomery.
