Women’s Center at UA Hosts Film Series for Native American Heritage Month

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama Women’s Resource Center is sponsoring “Her Own Words,” a movie series celebrating Native American women, on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 3:30 p.m. in the Ferguson Theatre.

The movie series includes five short films about American Indian women and their stories in celebration of Native American Heritage Month.

The short films to be shown include “Big Sister, Little Sister,” “Her Mother Before Her: Stories of Mothers & Grandmothers,” “Mountain Wolf Woman,” “Sisters and Friends” and “Winnebago Women: Songs & Stories.” The five films will last 84 minutes.

The WRC has teamed up with the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the campaign, “Native American Women Who Dared.” The campaign recognizes the often unheralded contributions of Native American women.
