Apple Campus Store Opens at UA with Celebration Event

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The grand opening of the Apple Campus Store at The University of Alabama will be held Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 11:45 a.m. in the Ferguson Center SupeStore.

Apple Inc. has authorized the University to open a high-commodity Apple store – a smaller version of a typical Apple store – carrying the same merchandise at education prices.

“We’re very excited to be able to provide Apple products for students, faculty and staff members. Previously, people had to go online or to an Apple store to purchase the products. Now we can provide them at a cheaper price, which is a tremendous asset for the University,” said Mandy Johnson, associate director of general merchandise/shipping and receiving for the UA SupeStore.

“This is also a great opportunity for students to have hands-on experience with Apple merchandise before purchasing, and to engage with a whole new era of technology,” she added.

The opening ceremony will begin at 11:45 a.m. with a ribbon cutting by Dr. Mark Nelson, vice president for student affairs and vice provost. Representatives from Apple will be on hand and 90.7 The Capstone radio station will be broadcasting live.

There will be one-day-only specials on MacBooks and MacBook Pros, and demo computers will be sold at discounted prices.  For every Mac purchase, a free HP Three-in-One Printer will be given while supplies last.

Education pricing is available to current students, faculty and staff; ID is required. Apple offers special education pricing to college students or teachers, administrators and staff of all grade levels.

Headphone company Skull Candy will also have representatives on hand; customers may bring old headphones to trade in for free Skull Candy headphones (available to the first 100 customers or as long as supplies last).

Door prizes will be given away between 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., including two iPod Touch and two iPod Nano players, laptop bags, Mac accessories and other prizes.  There is no purchase necessary to register for the door prizes but you must be present to win.

Free T-shirts will be handed out beginning at 11:45 a.m. while supplies last.  There will also be free pizza available.
