FLU REMINDERS

If you have flu-like symptoms or think you may have been exposed to swine flu, please visit the Student Health Center (no appointment necessary). Like other flu viruses, H1N1 spreads from person to person through coughing, sneezing and sometimes through touching objects contaminated with the virus.

The Student Health Center provides the following reminders on basic prevention measures for any virus:

  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
  • Clean and sterilize contaminated surfaces.

For more information on swine flu, visit www.prepare.ua.edu. Those individuals who have had documented H1N1 (swine) flu, verified with a confirmation by the Alabama Department of Public Health Lab or other certified lab, are presumed to be immune and do not need the H1N1 vaccine. To read more about the H1N1 (swine) flu vaccine, visit http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/downloads/vis-laiv-h1n1.pdf.

For more information call the Student Health Center Flu Hotline at 348-9184.
