TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The University of Alabama tradition of Homecoming Week will feature the theme “A Return to Glory” with campus events Sunday, Oct. 11-Saturday, Oct. 17.
The annual Homecoming Pep Rally and Bonfire will be held on the Quad Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m.
The Homecoming Parade will take place Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11:30 a.m., from downtown Tuscaloosa to the UA campus. Richard Todd, former UA All-American quarterback, will be parade grand marshal. Todd led UA to four SEC championships and a national championship in 1973. After college, Todd played for the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints.
The highlight of the week will be the UA football game against South Carolina at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 6:45 p.m.
The Homecoming Step Show presented by the National Pan-Hellenic Council will be held Friday, Oct. 16, at 8:30 p.m. at Coleman Coliseum. Tickets for the show are on sale at www.crimsonartstickets.com or at the Ferguson Center box office at a cost of $15 for college and high school students with a valid ID, $20 for the general public.
The Homecoming Service Project this year will be comprised of one major event and four successive volunteer opportunities. Together, the events will support the RISE Program and Temporary Emergency Services. The RISE Program benefits children with disabilities from birth to kindergarten and is located on the UA campus. Temporary Emergency Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families of Tuscaloosa County in crisis situations.
Student volunteers will serve at Temporary Emergency Services from Oct. 12 through Oct.15. Each day, a group of 20 students will help with advertising, sorting, cleaning and receiving donations from 1-5 p.m. Volunteer opportunities are open to all students.
The week will begin with the 21st Annual Roll Tide Run on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. The run is set to begin on Capstone Drive, with registration and check-in held at the rear entrance of Gorgas Library. The inaugural Crimson Kickoff powder puff charity football game will also be held that Sunday from 2:30-4 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center intramural fields; proceeds from the event will be donated to RISE.
Paint the Town Red and the Banner Competition will begin Monday, Oct. 12, as campus organizations show their school spirit across Tuscaloosa. An Urban Comedy Show will take place at the Ferguson Center Theater at 7 p.m. that Monday. The UA Homecoming Bowling Tournament is also planned for Oct. 12 and will begin at 9:30 p.m. at Bama Bowl on 15th Street.
The Homecoming Queen election will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13, with online voting from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at www.mybama.ua.edu. Also on that Tuesday, a basketball tournament is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center, and a talent show co-sponsored by University Programs will be held at 6 p.m. in the Ferguson Center.
On Wednesday, Oct. 14, students can participate in a Dodgeball Tournament at 7 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center. Events on Thursday, Oct. 15, include the Choreography Contest in Coleman Coliseum at 7 p.m. and a Homecoming Block Party from 5-7 p.m. in the north courtyard of Ridgecrest South.
