ANNOUNCEMENTS

Changes for football season. We are counting down to kickoff for the 2009 football season! To keep game days at UA smooth, safe and fun, we have made some changes in the way we handle student tickets, stadium entry and parking. Students should look for information titled “Get in the Game” through UA Student News e-mails and The Crimson White student newspaper or at Week of Welcome locations, residence halls, the athletic ticket office and the Action Card office. You can also visit these helpful sites: Action Card Office and http://uagameday.com.

Road closings and limited access due to triathlon. On Saturday, Aug. 22, the city of Tuscaloosa will host the 2009 USA Triathlon Elite National Championship, which is expected to attract athletes and fans from all over the country. The event finish line will be at The Park at Manderson Landing on Jack Warner Parkway, so the parkway will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Marr’s Spring Drive and Old Hackberry Lane will also be blocked from entering Jack Warner Parkway. Students entering parking lots to their residential areas will be allowed access to their lots only with their residential permits.

Parking and road changes in science and engineering area. The parking lots behind H.M. Comer Hall and just off Foundry Lane are now accessible only by way of Shelby Lane from Hackberry Lane. The eastbound lane of Campus Drive is closed to traffic at Seventh Avenue near Houser Hall. This closure should ease the vehicle congestion at McCorvey Drive and Campus Drive and give easier access to the parking area, which will remain open until construction begins, as early as December. Visit http://bamaparking.ua.edu/images/special-maps/Engineering-const-map-7-2009.PDF for a map of the affected areas. Also, at the end of the fall semester, the parking lot located between Rodgers Library and Hardaway Hall and the East Engineering Building will be impacted by the proposed construction of Phase III of the Science and Engineering Complex. When construction begins, all red northeast commuter and all green faculty and staff parking will be eliminated in this area. Students will be asked to use alternative red northeast parking lots and the Campus Drive parking deck.

STUDENT AFFAIRS

Campuswide network registration for laptops and mobile devices. Each fall, all laptops and mobile devices registered on The University of Alabama system are removed in order to maintain a high level of safety and security across the campus network. This effort removes students, faculty and staff no longer affiliated with the University from the system. If you are a student, faculty member or staff member returning to campus and wish to use a laptop or mobile device, you must complete a simple, one-time registration. You will be prompted to complete this one-time registration on your first attempt to open a Web browser. Enter your myBama username and password, accept the user agreement and restart your device to complete the registration process. For information regarding the registration of game consoles, click here http://resnet.ua.edu/subscribers/gameconsole.html. For ResNet users only, you will be prompted to register your desktop as well as your laptop and mobile device. If you experience problems or have questions, call the HelpDesk at 348-HELP or e-mail help.desk@ua.edu.

In response to complaints about the old clickers from students and instructors, the University has implemented a new type of student response system (clicker) from Turning Technologies. The eInstruction CPS clickers will no longer work in UA classrooms. Students who are required to use a clicker for classes beginning this fall must buy a new clicker, called the TurningPoint ResponseCard XR, which is available from the University Supply Store or other bookstores. The Supply Store will buy back old clickers (eInstruction or CPS). For a guide to the TurningPoint clicker, visit the Faculty Resource Center at http://frc.ua.edu/tutorial_pdfs/ttstudentguide.pdf. More information: contact the eTech TIPS line at 348-8477.

Freshman Forum applications are due at 4 p.m. on Sept. 1 in 335 Ferguson Center. Applications are available at http://leadership.ua.edu/. More information: Alex Karagas at 348-2836.
