The University of Alabama is actively monitoring the progression of the H1N1 virus (swine flu), and has encouraged students, faculty and staff to proactively adopt flu prevention behavior. The University has a Pandemic Flu Plan and is prepared to respond quickly and appropriately to any situation.
In the meantime, if you develop flu-like symptoms or think you may have been exposed to swine flu, please seek medical attention.
The University Medical Center provides the following reminders on basic infection control measures for any virus:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners also are effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread that way.
- Clean and sterilize contaminated surfaces.
